The 10th Rally of the Tests
15th - 21st November 2010
Over the past nine years the Rally of the Tests has built up an enviable reputation in the world of historic rallying. This FIA Championship qualifying round has become the “must do” event for competitors throughout the UK and Europe. As a celebration of the ten years of “The Tests” the Classic Rally Association are planning a fabulous one off six day event.
Whilst the style will remain the same this special event will not seek to emulate the RAC Rally of Great Britain by starting at one of the countries coastal resorts but will instead travel to Ireland for the opening three days.
Our Emerald Isle adventure will commence within striking distance of the ferry ports on Monday evening with what has become a trademark of “The Tests”, the Prologue followed by the welcome dinner. Two full days of challenging regularities and great “drivers” tests in the glorious countryside of County Wicklow and County Kilkenny, complimented of course by the very special atmosphere of Irish Hospitality , should provide a memorable opening to this 10th Anniversary event.
A ferry on Thursday morning will take crews across to Holyhead and the restart of the event. At this point the main event will be joined by competitors unable to commit to the full six days for the “Home Run” section. This separate event of typical non stop Rally of the Tests action will cris-cross North Wales, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Lancashire on the classic routes which are so much part of rally folklore.
The finish on Saturday afternoon is in Blackpool where it all began ten years ago for the current series of events and sixty years ago for the original rally.
There are countless photographs of cars on the “Monte Blackpool” test with “that tower” in the background, heeling over at precarious angles. (The cars, not the tower – the leaning one is elsewhere!). Blackpool is a brash, breezy, bright sort of place with no pretensions. It does not try to be something other than that – “exactly what it says on the tin”, a place for fun.
There is no doubt that the 10th Rally of the Tests will provide plenty of that.
We look forward to seeing you in Ireland (or on the Isle of Anglesey…)
