Since the first Classic Marathon in 1988 some 1600 crews have covered over 50,000 km’s of competitive motoring through 18 countries. Throughout this period the Marathon has remained true to its original spirit, providing classic car enthusiasts with an unrivalled mix of varied driving challenges, superb hospitality and the camaraderie born from the spirit of competition. Join us on the Marathon’s 21st birthday and take in the stunning scenery and spectacular roads of Slovenia, Croatia and Austria.

The event starts from the Slovenian capital - Ljubljana - a city now hailed as "the new Prague". After the formalities of scrutineering and documentation, crews have the opportunity to explore the beautiful old city centre, close to the Rally HQ hotel. The many pavement bars and restaurants lining the Ljubljanica River provide a perfect place to contemplate the excitement ahead.

From the start, crews will tackle a week of enjoyable and competitive rallying over challenging new terrain before the event’s grand finish in the lakeside resort of Bled complete with picturesque island church, cliff-top medieval castle and imposing mountain backdrop.

Back in 2005, when the 17th Classic Marathon visited Slovenia and Croatia, competitors enjoyed the mix of classic driving roads, stunning scenery and an unmatched welcome from the locals in this, the “Green Heart of Europe”. For 2009, we are building on the success of the “Dalmation Dash” to create a more compact route that includes a good variety of newly discovered roads. It has been a while since the Marathon last visited the mountains of Austria, so we felt it was high time we returned to this beautiful country.
